Engaging Students- low cost but priceless

Simple concept but universal game of Rock, Paper, Scissors can bring an entire campus together. At the 2017 NAFSA Annual conference, the theme of engagement and integration was repeatedly discussed. Sometimes the smallest, simplest ideas are priceless. Imagine if you can announce a tournament during orientation for Rock, Paper, Scissors. Get a student or student group to organize the tournament but involve every academic department, administrative department and student groups. Chemistry department can sign up folks, International Students Services can also sign up a team or players as well as Chinese Student Association. Each of these teams can organize a match during their first kick meetings and the winner can compete campus-side for the title. You will quickly see how many people will get into it and the games can go quite fast.
This is a cost effective way to bring together different groups but anyone can play this game. It’s a great ice breaker but it will also start some great conversations and Human to Human (H2H) interactions.

Let me know how it goes on your campus.
