Test Taking and What It Really Means

We all know that Chinese students are excellent test takers. They can score perfectly on their TOEFL and SATs but once they come to the USA, everything changes. Students from China do not participate in class and do not know how to write essays.

Despite all the hours of studying and cram classes at New Oriental, these students learn only how to take a standardized test but not how to apply the knowledge they were tested on.

Students can certainly learn how to take a test by learning short cuts or word associations to aid memorization. However, it is a different matter for students to comprehend what they have been tested on and apply their new knowledge beyond the classroom.

Remember, test taking as a skill is not something that a student will get hired to do after they graduate from school.
